AHP Internship Opportunities:
Make hope part of your career journey.
Are you a college student looking for meaningful, mission-driven experience? Do you want to learn how nonprofit organizations work behind the scenes while making a tangible impact in people’s lives? Come join us.
At The Apricity Hope Project, we provide mental, emotional, and physical health support to caregivers of medically complex and disabled children. We believe hope isn’t just an idea, it’s a lifeline. As an intern, you’ll be part of the team that makes that lifeline stronger.
Open Roles:
- Communications + Marketing Intern
- Fundraising + Development Intern
- Podcast + Media Intern (for our show When Autumn Comes)
Internship Logistics (Applies to All Roles):
Location: These internships are open to both remote and local (Hampton Roads, VA) students.
- If you’re local, we’ll meet at The Apricity Hideaway about once a month to collaborate in person—packing hospital go-bags, preparing for retreats, or planning big projects.
- Most work will still be done remotely, so you’ll need a good internet connection and comfort using Google Drive, Zoom, and email.
Time Commitment:
- Average of 5–10 hours per week
- 10–15 weeks per semester
- Weekly or biweekly virtual check-ins
- Hours may increase temporarily around large events (like Camp: HOPE FULL in March) or major campaigns—we’ll communicate those needs in advance.
Credit Eligible: Yes—we’ll work with your school to meet requirements
Compensation: Unpaid, but rich in experience, mentorship, and meaning. (AHP actually has no paid employees as of 2025 – we are fully supported by volunteers.)
What You’ll Gain:
- Hands-on nonprofit and communications experience
- Professional mentorship and support
- Portfolio-worthy work for your resume
- College credit (we’ll help with any school paperwork)
- The chance to make a real difference for families who need it most
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll be mentored directly by Susan Geoghegan, Founder and Executive Director of The Apricity Hope Project. Susan is a medical mom to two children with a rare disease, a communications pro with a background in Communication Studies and Marketing from James Madison University, and a fierce believer in compassionate storytelling with community-centered action.
As an intern, you’ll learn about:
- How nonprofits operate—from daily tasks to long-term strategy
- Organizational communications, including medical communications and public relations, working with sensitive content and uplifting marginalized voices
- Partnering with hospitals, rare disease orgs, and caregiver communities
- Fundraising, event planning, podcasting, and so much more
Whether you are majoring in Communication Studies, Marketing, Social Work, Human Services, Journalism, Healthcare Admin, or Nonprofit Management, we’ve got a role that can help you grow.
