Giving Tuesday: Because Caregivers Deserve Care Too

This Giving Tuesday, Be the Apricity

Is anyone else freezing today? Here in Virginia we did not get buckets of snow but geez it is cold!

Did you know there’s a word for the warmth of the sun in winter? That feeling when it’s icy cold but the sun hits your face with a ray of golden warmth. Apricity. Which is why it’s the perfect symbol for what we do at The Apricity Hope Project (AHP)—bringing light and warmth to parents caring for children with severe disabilities or medical complexities, eduring their hardest seasons.

As a medical mama myself, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I create AHP. I knew there was a need but I could not comprehend the impact we would make on this community.

November was an incredibly tough month for my family. The first 11 days my son Benji had the longest, worst autonomic storm of his life. The last two weeks of the month we were in the Pediatric ICU and then home adjusting to our new normal, new respiratory support needs. The PICU room we were in had no windows. I often tell my describe this journey as “cold, dark, and isolating.” That room was literally cold, dark and isolating. It was a tough experience with a lot of trauma for my entire family. I found myself questioning all the things. And then I received this message on Thanksgiving Day and found myself in tears:

Caregivers face exhaustion, grief, and isolation every single day. But with your help, AHP provides apricity in several ways:

  • Hospital Go-Bags, NICU Grad-Kits and Care(Giver) Packages: Essentials for parents spending long, stressful days by their child’s bedside.
  • Take 5 Retreats: Restorative retreats that give moms the care they deserve, the healing they need.
  • Community and Connection: Through AHP’s When Autumn Comes Podcast and support networks.

This Giving Tuesday, let’s be that much-needed warmth.

  • $25 helps fund “Coffee + Convo” Sessions – replacing isolation with community
  • $50 helps provide restorative workshops at retreats – replacing guilt with grace
  • $100 helps a caregiving mama reclaim her strength when she is supported – replacing exhaustion with hope

Your generosity can change lives. Be the apricity that families like mine need this Giving Tuesday.

With hope and gratitude, Lorelei + Benji’s Mama,

Susan Geoghegan
AHP Founder + Executive Director
